Our History of Innovation Began with Our Founder

Arthur Savage was an explorer and cattle baron once held captive for over a year by the aborigines of Australia and started Savage Arms in 1894 after his return to the United States. This extraordinay man, developer of the Savage Halpine torpedo, advanced firearm technology with his invention of the first "hammerless" lever action rifle with the entire mechanism enclosed in a steel receiver. Known as the Model 99, it was the beginning of a history of value and quality that is the hallmark of Savage Arms today.

Almost a hundred years later, Savage Arms has once again invented a product that has revolutionized an industry. In 1992, Savage designed and patented the SNAIL, an environmentally friendly shooting range system that has since been adopted by all major firearms' manufacturers, police, military and private shooting clubs in America and 14 other countries.

Savage believes that there is no great value without quality. You'll find both in every product they produce, now and for the next hundred years, as well.
